1. Nigeria on Saturday recorded 829 new coronavirus cases in the country.

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) said the new cases bring the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country to 83,576 which include 70,495 discharged cases and 1,247 deaths.

2. President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed sadness over the death of Nigerian doctors killed by COVID-19.

A statement on Saturday by Garba Shehu, presidential spokesman, disclosed that Buhari has sent his condolence to the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) over the loss.

3. Six people, including a police officer, were reportedly killed in the aftermath of an attack in Garkida town of Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State in northeast Nigeria.

It was also reported that eleven youths were abducted by the attackers who looted food and medicine stores in the town.

4. Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has reiterated that he has no plans of dumping the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Ikpeazu in an interview on Friday said he believed that people of Abia State are comfortable with PDP.

5. The Kaduna State Chairman of the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria, (PFN), Apostle Emmanuel Egoh Bako and his wife, Mrs Cindy Bako, were on Friday evening, 25th December 2020, kidnapped by unknown gunmen at their residence in Albarka Camp, Fadan Kagoma, near Kafanchan in Jema’a Local Government Area.

The state chairman of CAN, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, who confirmed the kidnap of the cleric and his wife to DAILY POST, said the Christmas celebration came and went with sad dust of abduction of a religious leader with his wife.

6. The Southwest Security Network (Amotekun) in Oyo State, has stated that its operatives did not kill a student of the University of Ibadan (UI) last Sunday.

Retired Col. Olayinka Olayanju, the Commandant, in a press release on Saturday, said the corps only engaged a three-man robbery gang.

7. Gunmen have kidnapped a 23-year-old nursing mother and left behind a month-old-baby at Gujungu town in Taura Local Government Area of Jigawa State.

The gunmen in numbers stormed the residence of one Alhaji Basiru Haruna at about 2:00 am of Saturday and whisked away his wife identified as Habashiyya.

8. Gunmen kidnapped a traveler on Isan-Iludun-Ekiti highway in Oye Local Government Area of Ekiti State on Friday.

Amotekun State Corps Commander, retired Brig.-Gen. Joe Komolafe, who confirmed the incident on Saturday, said Amotekun and police officers jointly engaged the attackers.

9. An unidentified man has been killed while many sustained injuries during a cult clash over territorial supremacy in Sabo to Abaku area of Osogbo in Osun State on Friday.

It was gathered that the rival cult group around 6:30 am on Friday resurfaced and macheted two men and shot another in the leg.

10. Spain and Sweden have recorded the coronavirus variant first identified in the United Kingdom.

Four cases reported in Madrid all arrived from the UK recently, according to Regional government’s deputy health chief, Antonio Zapatero.
