transfer news with the latest on Kai Havertz’s future at Bayer Leverkusen, plus more on Adama Traore and John Stones.
SECOND PL CLUB BID FOR GABRIEL
A second Premier League club has made a late bid for the Lille defender Gabriel Magalhaes. The player is expected to decide his future this week with Everton and Napoli the front runners to sign the Brazilian, however Magalhaes has been made aware of a late bid by an unnamed Premier League club, thought to be in excess of £22m. The highly rated central defender will leave the Ligue 1 side this summer.
OLE HOPEFUL OVER POGBA CONTRACT
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is hopeful Paul Pogba will sign a new Manchester United contract and play an important role in the club’s future success.
Pogba has long been linked with a move to Real Madrid or former side Juventus, and even admitted himself last year that he was looking for a “new challenge” in his career.
The France World Cup winner made just eight appearances in all competitions during an injury-hit season before the coronavirus lockdown, but his return to fitness and form since football resumed last month has sparked hope among many supporters that he could stay at United beyond the current campaign.
“I can’t comment on discussions between players and the club but of course we want to keep the best players,” Solskjaer said.
“We want to build a squad for the future and Scott and Nemanja, they’re in similar positions but in different stages of their careers – one at the start and one really experienced one.
“We also need players in that mid-range group so hopefully we can do something. I know that since Paul came back from injury he’s looking better and better. He’s just enjoying his football and let’s see where it takes us.”
Kai Havertz: Chelsea favourites to sign Bayer Leverkusen midfielder
Chelsea are the favourites to sign Kai Havertz from Bayer Leverkusen this summer, but are not willing to pay the £90m asking price.
Havertz wants to leave Leverkusen and the German club are prepared to allow his exit. The 21-year-old has only two years remaining on his contract and Leverkusen have failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.
The Bundesliga side value Havertz at €100m (£90m) but his representatives are hopeful a deal can be structured with bonus payments and add-ons that would satisfy all parties.
HWANG JOINS RB LEIPZIG
RB Leipzig have signed South Korean forward Hee-chan Hwang from sister club Red Bull Salzburg.
The 24-year-old, who has made 32 appearances for South Korea, signed a five-year deal with Leipzig.
Hwang is the 17th transfer from Austrian side Salzburg to Leipzig, which is also backed by the Red Bull energy drinks company. He follows the likes of Naby Keita, Amadou Haidara, Dayot Upamecano and Konrad Laimer in making the switch to Germany.
He scored 16 goals and set up 22 more in 40 games across all competitions for Salzburg last season.
UNITED END DEMBELE PURSUIT
Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Lyon striker Moussa Dembele, according to the Daily Star.
The £60m-rated striker is now reportedly not on United’s radar due to his wage demands and Mason Greenwood’s emergence.
Dembele has scored 31 goals in 60 appearances for Lyon since joining from Celtic in 2018.
NORWICH VALUE GODFREY ‘UP TO £50M’
Norwich City will demand up to £50m if they are to lose their highly-rated central defender Ben Godfrey.
German clubs Borussia Dortmund and RB Leipzig are among those keen to sign the England U21 international, with the Canaries looking almost certain to be relegated from the Premier League.
Norwich believe the 22-year old will become an England first-team regular in the future and are adamant, therefore, that he will not leave on the cheap if they do indeed slide back into the Championship.
‘JORGINHO KEY IN HAVERTZ DEAL’
Juventus are keen on Chelsea midfielder Jorginho – and that could help a deal for Kai Havertz, according to the Daily Mirror.
Chelsea have already spent big on Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech for next season, and may cash in on either Jorginho or N’Golo Kante, who is reportedly wanted by Real Madrid.
Former Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri, now at Juventus, brought Jorginho to Stamford Bridge in 2018.
‘UNITED’S CENTRE-BACKS TARGETS’
Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is eyeing up a long-term partner for Harry Maguire, according to ESPN.
Solskjaer has reportedly identified Nathan Ake, Tyrone Mings and Alessio Romagnoli as possible options, as United look to find the final few pieces to the puzzle in their defence.
MOYES: ANTONIO DEAL AFTER SEASON
David Moyes has said West Ham plan to start negotiations with Michail Antonio over a new contract at the end of the season.
Antonio, 30, has a year remaining on his current deal, but Moyes says West Ham need to know what league they are in before committing.
“We have to find out what league we’re going to be in,” West Ham’s manager said. “We’ve got a job to do. We’ve not taken our focus for one minute away from the next game. At the end of the season it’s something we’ll start to look at.”
REAL LINING UP POGBA?
Real Madrid are reportedly lining up a summer move for Paul Pogba as part of their priority transfer business ahead of next season, according to Get French Football News.
The 27-year-old is nearing a return to his best form for Manchester United, and Real boss Zinedine Zidane was reportedly frustrated at not landing the Frenchman last summer.
NDOMBELE, SESSEGNON OUT, BARCA PLAYERS IN?
Barcelona have made an enquiry about signing Tottenham duo Tanguy Ndombele and Ryan Sessegnon in part-exchange deals, according to the London Evening Standard.
Philippe Coutinho, Ivan Rakitic, Samuel Umtiti and Nelson Semedo could all leave Barcelona in the summer as part of a swap deal.
Ndombele and Sessegnon cost £80m last summer but are reportedly not part of Spurs’ future plans.
MAN CITY, JUVE ‘LEAD TRAORE CHASE’
Manchester City and Juventus lead the race for Wolves winger Adama Traore ahead of Barcelona, according to ESPN.
The 24-year-old has three years left on his Wolves deal, and his future at the club may depend on whether they qualify for the Champions League.
Traore has scored six goals and registered 12 assists in his 47 games this season.
PEP CASTS DOUBT OVER STONES FUTURE
Pep Guardiola has cast doubt over England defender John Stones‘ future at Manchester City.
Guardiola still wants to continue working with the 26-year-old but, after another campaign dogged by form and fitness issues, he does not appear to be offering the same solid guarantee.
“What I want is the best for him and at the end of the season we are going to speak about what is going to happen, because sometimes my wish is not the wish of the players, or the wish for the situation of the club.
“I am honest with them and the moment I will feel – not with John but any player – if we have to change we are going to tell them.”
Stones has recently been linked with a move back to former club Everton.
